This thesis explores the implementation of sustainable design principles in urban residential buildings to address the environmental challenges posed by rapid urbanization. The study aims to investigate the current practices and challenges in integrating sustainability in urban residential projects, identify key strategies for enhancing sustainability, and assess the impact of sustainable design principles on the environmental performance of residential buildings. The research methodology includes a comprehensive review of relevant literature, case studies of sustainable residential projects, and a survey of architects, developers, and residents to gather insights and perspectives on sustainable design practices. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. The literature review in Chapter Two presents ten key themes related to sustainable design principles in urban residential buildings, including energy efficiency, passive design strategies, material selection, water conservation, green spaces, and indoor environmental quality. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis approaches.
