This thesis explores sustainable design strategies for urban affordable housing developments, aiming to address the pressing need for environmentally friendly and economically viable housing solutions in urban areas. The research investigates various sustainable design principles and practices that can be incorporated into the planning and development of affordable housing projects to create livable, resilient, and cost-effective built environments. Through a comprehensive literature review, this study examines ten key aspects related to sustainable design in affordable housing, including energy efficiency, material selection, water conservation, passive design strategies, and community engagement, among others. The research methodology employed in this study involves a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods to analyze the implementation and impact of sustainable design strategies in urban affordable housing developments. The methodology includes site visits, interviews with stakeholders, surveys, and data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of different sustainable design interventions and their implications for affordability, environmental performance, and social equity. The findings of this research reveal that integrating sustainable design strategies into urban affordable housing projects can lead to multiple benefits, such as reduced energy consumption, lower operational costs, improved indoor environmental quality, and enhanced community well-being.
