This thesis investigates the significance of sustainable design practices in the context of urban redevelopment projects. The rapid urbanization and population growth in cities have led to increased pressure on existing infrastructure, resources, and the environment. Sustainable design offers a holistic approach to address these challenges by creating environmentally friendly, socially equitable, and economically viable urban spaces. This research aims to explore the application of sustainable design principles in urban redevelopment projects and evaluate their impact on the built environment. The study begins by providing an introduction to the topic, highlighting the background of sustainable design and its relevance in the current urban development scenario. The problem statement identifies the key issues faced in urban redevelopment projects, such as environmental degradation, social inequality, and economic inefficiency. The objectives of the study are outlined to investigate the benefits of sustainable design practices in addressing these challenges and improving the overall quality of urban spaces. A comprehensive literature review examines existing research on sustainable design, urban redevelopment, and related topics. The review identifies ten key themes that are relevant to the study, including sustainable urban planning, green building technologies, community engagement, and policy frameworks. By synthesizing and analyzing the literature, this study aims to build a theoretical framework for understanding the role of sustainable design in urban redevelopment projects. The findings of the study are presented and discussed in Chapter Four, focusing on the application of sustainable design principles in real-world urban redevelopment projects. The discussion examines the challenges and opportunities encountered in implementing sustainable design practices, as well as the outcomes and impacts observed in the built environment. The chapter also explores the implications of the findings for urban planning, architecture, and sustainable development policy. In conclusion, this thesis summarizes the key findings, implications, and recommendations for future research and practice. The study highlights the importance of integrating sustainable design practices into urban redevelopment projects to create healthier, more resilient, and inclusive cities. By emphasizing the significance of sustainability in urban development, this research contributes to advancing knowledge and promoting best practices in the field of architecture and urban planning.
