This thesis focuses on the critical issue of designing sustainable housing solutions for urban slums. The rapid urbanization and population growth in many developing countries have led to the proliferation of informal settlements characterized by substandard housing conditions and inadequate infrastructure. Addressing the housing needs of slum dwellers is crucial for achieving sustainable urban development and improving the quality of life for millions of people living in these marginalized communities. This research project aims to explore innovative design approaches and strategies to create sustainable housing solutions that are affordable, resilient, and environmentally friendly. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, presenting the background of the research, defining the problem statement, outlining the objectives, discussing the limitations and scope of the study, highlighting the significance of the research, and providing an overview of the thesis structure. The chapter also includes definitions of key terms related to sustainable housing and urban slums.
