The proliferation of digital technologies has transformed the landscape of heritage tourism, yet many archaeological sites continue to face challenges in engaging contemporary visitors effectively, often perceiving such sites as static and inaccessible without interactive enhancements. This study aims to explore the potential of augmented reality (AR) applications to enhance visitor engagement, understanding, and satisfaction at archaeological sites, focusing specifically on the integration of immersive digital experiences to bridge the gap between heritage preservation and user-centric interaction. The research objectives include examining visitors’ perceptions of AR technology, assessing the impact of AR on visitor engagement metrics, and identifying design features that maximize educational and entertainment values within archaeological contexts. Employing a mixed-method research design, this study combines quantitative surveys and qualitative focus group discussions to provide a comprehensive understanding of user experiences. The quantitative component involves administering structured questionnaires to a sample of 400 visitors at two prominent archaeological sites—one urban and one rural—utilizing stratified random sampling to ensure demographic diversity. The questionnaires measure variables such as perceived engagement, learning outcomes, and satisfaction, using Likert-scale items validated through pilot testing.
