Thesis Abstract
The global population is aging rapidly, leading to an increased prevalence of age-related conditions such as sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass and strength in elderly individuals. Physical exercise has been widely recognized as a key intervention to mitigate the effects of sarcopenia and promote muscle development in the elderly. However, there is a lack of consensus regarding the most effective exercise programs for this population. This thesis aims to investigate the effects of different exercise programs on muscle development in elderly individuals. The study will involve a comprehensive literature review to examine existing research on various exercise modalities, including resistance training, aerobic exercise, and combination programs, in relation to muscle development in the elderly. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter Two comprises a detailed literature review that critically analyzes previous studies on exercise programs and muscle development in elderly individuals, highlighting the key findings and gaps in the existing literature. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including the study design, participant recruitment, data collection methods, and statistical analysis techniques. This chapter also discusses ethical considerations and potential limitations of the study. Chapter Four presents a thorough discussion of the research findings, including the effects of different exercise programs on muscle development, adherence rates, and potential barriers to participation. Finally, Chapter Five offers a conclusion and summary of the thesis, highlighting the key findings, implications for practice, and recommendations for future research. Overall, this thesis aims to contribute valuable insights into the optimal exercise programs for promoting muscle development in elderly individuals, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the quality of life and functional independence in this growing demographic group.
