Thesis Abstract

Climate change poses significant challenges to livestock farming, including increased heat stress, disease outbreaks, and changes in forage availability. This project aims to investigate the impact of agricultural education on farmers' adoption of climate-resilient livestock breeds, with a focus on enhancing the resilience and sustainability of livestock production systems.
The project will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative research methods. Initially, a comprehensive literature review will be conducted to gather existing knowledge on the subject, including studies on the impacts of climate change on livestock farming, the characteristics of climate-resilient livestock breeds, and the role of agricultural education in promoting their adoption.
Quantitative data will be collected through surveys administered to farmers who have received agricultural education and those who have not. The surveys will assess farmers' knowledge and awareness of climate-resilient livestock breeds, their attitudes towards adopting these breeds, and the factors influencing their adoption decisions. Additionally, data on farmers' livestock production systems and their experiences with climate change impacts will be collected.
Qualitative research methods, such as interviews and focus group discussions, will be conducted with a sample of farmers who have adopted climate-resilient livestock breeds. These qualitative data will provide insights into the benefits and challenges associated with adopting these breeds, as well as the role of agricultural education in facilitating their adoption.
The collected data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques and thematic analysis. The findings will be used to assess the impact of agricultural education on farmers' adoption of climate-resilient livestock breeds, identify the barriers and facilitators of adoption, and develop recommendations for enhancing agricultural education programs to promote the adoption of these breeds.
The expected outcomes of this project include a better understanding of the impact of agricultural education on farmers' adoption of climate-resilient livestock breeds, insights into the factors influencing adoption decisions, and recommendations for improving agricultural education programs. The findings will contribute to the development of strategies to enhance the resilience and sustainability of livestock production systems in the face of climate change.
