Thesis Abstract

The excessive use of agrochemicals in agriculture has raised concerns about its negative impacts on the environment, human health, and food safety. This project aims to explore the role of agricultural education in promoting sustainable agrochemical alternatives, with a focus on identifying and promoting practices that reduce reliance on conventional agrochemicals while maintaining agricultural productivity.
The project will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining literature review, surveys, and case studies. Initially, a comprehensive literature review will be conducted to gather existing knowledge on sustainable agrochemical alternatives, including organic farming practices, integrated pest management, and biopesticides.
Quantitative data will be collected through surveys administered to farmers and agricultural educators. The surveys will assess farmers' knowledge and adoption of sustainable agrochemical alternatives, their attitudes towards these practices, and the barriers they face in implementing them. Agricultural educators will be surveyed to understand the content and delivery methods of existing agricultural education programs related to sustainable agrochemical alternatives.
Qualitative research methods, such as interviews and case studies, will be conducted with a sample of farmers who have successfully adopted sustainable agrochemical alternatives. These qualitative data will provide insights into the factors that facilitated their adoption, the challenges they faced, and the role of agricultural education in their decision-making process.
The collected data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques and thematic analysis. The findings will be used to identify successful practices and strategies for promoting sustainable agrochemical alternatives through agricultural education. Recommendations will be developed for enhancing agricultural education programs to effectively promote and support the adoption of these alternatives.
The expected outcomes of this project include a better understanding of the role of agricultural education in promoting sustainable agrochemical alternatives, insights into the barriers and facilitators of adoption, and recommendations for improving agricultural education programs. The findings will contribute to the development of evidence-based strategies to reduce the reliance on conventional agrochemicals and promote sustainable farming practices.
