Thesis Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed agricultural extension delivery, yet many extension agents and farmers in rural regions face significant barriers in accessing effective, scalable, and interactive training programs. This study addresses the critical need for innovative instructional methods in agricultural extension by designing and evaluating an interactive e-learning module tailored for agricultural extension training in rural communities. The primary aim is to enhance the competency, engagement, and knowledge retention of extension agents and farmers through technology-mediated learning. Specific objectives include developing a comprehensive e-learning module aligned with current agricultural extension practices, assessing its usability and user satisfaction, evaluating its impact on learners' knowledge and skills, and identifying key factors influencing its effectiveness. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach grounded in the constructivist learning theory, which emphasizes learner-centered, interactive, and participatory educational strategies. The study populations comprise 150 agricultural extension agents and 200 farmers from a representative rural district, selected through stratified random sampling to ensure diversity in learners’ backgrounds and technology familiarity. Quantitative data will be collected via pre- and post-intervention assessments measuring knowledge levels, self-reported confidence, and skill application, using validated questionnaires developed based on extension curriculum benchmarks. In conclusion, the findings are expected to demonstrate that well-designed interactive e-learning modules can significantly improve extension services by equipping agents and farmers with relevant knowledge and skills efficiently. The research recommends scaling up digital training platforms, investing in digital literacy programs, and fostering partnerships with technological providers to enhance accessibility and engagement. Further studies should explore longitudinal impacts on adoption rates of agricultural innovations and farmer productivity, as well as adaptations for different crops, regions, and literacy levels to optimize digital extension delivery systems.
