The adoption of sustainable agricultural practices is vital for ensuring environmental health, economic viability, and social well-being among farming communities; however, disparities in the adoption rates between organic and conventional farmers remain underexplored, especially in the context of developing agricultural regions. This study aims to provide a comprehensive comparative analysis of the factors influencing farmers' adoption of sustainable practices within organic and conventional farming systems, with specific objectives to identify key motivators and barriers, evaluate the socio-economic and psychological determinants, and assess the relative influence of institutional and informational factors on adoption decisions. The research adopts a cross-sectional survey design, targeting a total population of 1,200 smallholder farmers in two agriculturally significant provinces where both farming systems are operational. A stratified random sampling technique is employed to select 600 respondents—equally divided between organic and conventional farmers—ensuring proportional representation of farming modalities. Data collection is conducted through structured questionnaires supplemented by key informant interviews, capturing demographic, socio-economic, attitudinal, and institutional variables pertinent to sustainable practice adoption. The findings are expected to inform policymakers, extension services, and development practitioners about tailored intervention strategies to enhance sustainable practice uptake across diverse farming systems. The main conclusion underscores the importance of targeted educational initiatives, improved access to extension services, and reinforcement of institutional support to foster sustainable agriculture practices. Recommendations include strengthening farmer education programs, developing context-specific policies that address identified barriers, and promoting participatory approaches that harness farmers’ perceptions and experiences. This study advocates for further longitudinal research to assess temporal changes in adoption behaviors and the effectiveness of intervention programs, thereby contributing to sustainable agricultural development and resilience.
