Abstract
Climate change poses a significant threat to smallholder farmers in developing countries, impacting their livelihoods and food security. This study aims to assess the economic impact of climate change on smallholder farmers in developing countries, focusing on key aspects such as agricultural productivity, income levels, and adaptation strategies. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, this research identifies the challenges faced by smallholder farmers in the face of changing climatic conditions and explores the various factors influencing their vulnerability to these challenges. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative interviews with smallholder farmers in selected developing countries. By analyzing agricultural productivity trends, income levels, and adaptation strategies, this research seeks to provide valuable insights into the economic repercussions of climate change on smallholder farmers. Additionally, the study evaluates the effectiveness of existing adaptation measures and policies in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change on smallholder farmers. Findings from this research indicate that smallholder farmers in developing countries are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, with significant decreases in agricultural productivity and income levels observed in recent years. The study highlights the importance of implementing sustainable adaptation strategies, such as crop diversification, water management practices, and access to climate information, to enhance the resilience of smallholder farmers to climate change. Overall, this thesis contributes to the existing literature on the economic impact of climate change on smallholder farmers in developing countries by offering valuable insights into the challenges faced by these farmers and the potential strategies for improving their resilience. The findings of this study have important implications for policymakers, development practitioners, and other stakeholders involved in supporting smallholder farmers in adapting to the changing climate conditions. Through a deeper understanding of the economic implications of climate change on smallholder farmers, this research aims to inform evidence-based policies and interventions that can effectively address the challenges faced by vulnerable agricultural communities in developing countries.
