Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Climate change poses a significant threat to agricultural productivity and economic sustainability worldwide. This study aimed to assess the economic impact of climate change on crop yield and profitability in the agricultural sector. The research focused on analyzing the effects of changing climate patterns on crop production, farm incomes, and overall agricultural profitability. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to understand the current state of knowledge on the subject and identify gaps that needed further investigation. The research methodology employed a combination of quantitative analysis, data collection, and statistical modeling to evaluate the relationship between climate variables and crop yields. Primary data collection involved surveys, interviews, and field observations to gather information from farmers, agricultural experts, and relevant stakeholders. Secondary data from governmental and research institutions were also utilized to complement the primary data sources. The findings of the study revealed that climate change has a significant impact on crop yield and profitability in the agricultural sector. Increasing temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events were identified as key factors influencing agricultural productivity. Crop losses, reduced yields, and increased production costs were observed as direct consequences of climate change, leading to economic challenges for farmers and the agricultural industry. The discussion of the findings highlighted the vulnerability of smallholder farmers to climate change impacts and the need for adaptive strategies to enhance resilience and sustainability in agricultural practices. Policy recommendations were proposed to support farmers in mitigating and adapting to climate change, including the promotion of climate-smart agricultural techniques, access to climate information and early warning systems, and investment in agricultural research and infrastructure. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the economic impact of climate change on crop yield and profitability in the agricultural sector. By understanding the challenges posed by climate change and implementing appropriate adaptation measures, stakeholders can work towards building a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector in the face of environmental uncertainties. Further research is recommended to explore additional factors and solutions to address the complex interactions between climate change and agriculture, ensuring food security and economic stability for future generations.
