Thesis Abstract

Climate change is posing serious threats to global food security through increased frequency and severity of extreme weather events like droughts, floods and heat waves. This necessitates a shift towards more climate resilient cropping systems that can withstand these stresses. The present study aims to model and evaluate different cropping system options for their resilience to climate variability. Climate data for the past 30 years will be analyzed to understand historical trends and future projections. Key climate resilient crops and varieties will be identified through literature review. Field experiments will be conducted to study the performance of different cropping systems (intercropping, relay cropping, agroforestry, etc.) under varying climatic conditions. Crop models will be developed and validated using experimental data. The most suitable climate resilient cropping systems for different agro-climatic zones will be recommended.
