Investigating the Barriers to Adult Participation in Education and Training

Thesis Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the barriers that hinder adult participation in education and training programs. Despite the recognized importance of lifelong learning, many adults face various challenges that prevent them from engaging in educational opportunities. Understanding these barriers is crucial for developing effective strategies to promote adult participation in education and training.

The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A diverse sample of adults who have not participated in education or training programs will be selected to gather their perspectives on the barriers they face. Additionally, relevant stakeholders, such as educators, policymakers, and community leaders, will be interviewed to gain insights into the systemic factors that contribute to low adult participation rates.

The research will focus on identifying and analyzing various barriers, including financial constraints, lack of time, family responsibilities, limited access to educational resources, and perceived lack of relevance. The quantitative surveys will provide statistical data on the prevalence and impact of these barriers, while the qualitative interviews will offer a deeper understanding of the experiences and perspectives of individuals and stakeholders.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on adult education and highlight the specific barriers that hinder adult participation. The research outcomes will inform policymakers, educators, and program developers about the key challenges faced by adults and guide the development of targeted interventions and support systems. Ultimately, this research aims to promote inclusive and accessible education and training opportunities for adults, enabling them to enhance their skills, knowledge, and overall well-being.
