Thesis Abstract
The impact of taxation as an aid to economic development in Enugu State is a critical area of study that delves into the role of tax policies in fostering economic growth and development at the regional level. This research aims to analyze the relationship between taxation and economic development in Enugu State, Nigeria, by examining the effectiveness of tax policies in promoting sustainable economic growth, improving public service delivery, and reducing poverty. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of tax revenue data and economic indicators with qualitative assessment of tax administration practices and their impact on economic development outcomes. Data on tax revenue collection, GDP growth, public expenditure, and poverty levels in Enugu State will be gathered from official government sources, as well as through interviews with key stakeholders in the tax administration and economic development sectors. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing literature on the role of taxation in economic development, particularly in the context of a subnational region like Enugu State. By assessing the impact of tax policies on key economic indicators such as GDP growth, public service provision, and poverty reduction, this study aims to provide insights into the effectiveness of current tax strategies in promoting sustainable development outcomes in the state. The research will also offer recommendations for policymakers and tax administrators in Enugu State on how to enhance the role of taxation as a tool for economic development. By identifying best practices in tax policy design, revenue collection, and public expenditure management, this study seeks to inform policy decisions that can lead to a more efficient and equitable tax system, ultimately contributing to improved economic development outcomes in the state. Overall, this research project addresses a significant gap in the literature on the impact of taxation on economic development in Enugu State, providing valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners interested in leveraging tax policies as a driver of sustainable development at the regional level.
