Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The global rise in antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to public health, with increasing concerns about its impact on both humans and animals. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance profiles of bacteria in companion animals in urban versus rural settings. A total of [insert number] companion animals were sampled from urban and rural areas, and various bacterial isolates were identified and tested for antimicrobial resistance using standard microbiological techniques. The results revealed a higher prevalence of certain bacterial species in urban companion animals compared to their rural counterparts, suggesting potential differences in environmental exposures and transmission dynamics. Additionally, antimicrobial resistance was found to be more pronounced in urban animals, highlighting the need for targeted surveillance and control measures in these settings. The study provides valuable insights into the complexities of antimicrobial resistance in companion animals and underscores the importance of a One Health approach to address this growing global health concern. Further research is recommended to explore the underlying factors driving antimicrobial resistance in urban and rural companion animal populations and to develop effective strategies for mitigating its impact on both animal and human health.
