Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease impacting the quality of life of both humans and animals, including dogs. Conventional treatments for osteoarthritis in dogs provide symptomatic relief but do not address the underlying cause of the disease. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising regenerative medicine approach that aims to promote tissue repair and regeneration. This thesis explores the potential of stem cell therapy in the treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs. The primary objective is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of stem cell therapy in alleviating the symptoms and progression of osteoarthritis in canine patients. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the topic, presenting the background of the study, defining the problem statement, outlining the objectives, discussing the limitations and scope of the study, highlighting the significance of the research, and presenting the structure of the thesis. Chapter 2 consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing studies on stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in both humans and animals, highlighting the current state of knowledge and gaps in research. Chapter 3 details the research methodology employed in this study, including the selection criteria for canine participants, stem cell isolation and characterization procedures, treatment administration protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis methods. This chapter aims to provide transparency and reproducibility in the research process. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the findings obtained from the study, including the evaluation of clinical outcomes, radiographic assessments, histological analyses, and patient-reported outcomes. The results are interpreted in the context of existing literature and implications for future research and clinical practice are discussed. Chapter 5 concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, discussing the implications of the research, and providing recommendations for further investigation. The limitations of the study are acknowledged, and suggestions for improving the efficacy and safety of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs are proposed. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the use of stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs, providing valuable insights into the potential benefits and challenges of this innovative treatment approach. The findings of this study have the potential to inform clinical practice and advance the field of veterinary regenerative medicine.
