Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease that affects dogs, leading to pain, discomfort, and decreased mobility. Traditional treatment approaches provide symptomatic relief but do not address the underlying cause of the disease. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising regenerative medicine approach for treating osteoarthritis by promoting tissue repair and reducing inflammation. This thesis aims to explore the efficacy of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the study, outlining the background of the research, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The literature review in Chapter 2 examines ten key studies related to stem cell therapy in canine osteoarthritis, highlighting the mechanisms of action, treatment protocols, and outcomes reported in these studies. Chapter 3 details the research methodology, including the study design, sample selection, stem cell isolation and characterization methods, treatment protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis procedures. The findings of the study are discussed in Chapter 4, presenting the efficacy of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs based on clinical and radiographic assessments, pain scores, joint function, and owner satisfaction.
