This study focuses on the analysis of the interpretative function of costume design in a specific theater production, namely THA 303. By examining the relationship between costumes and the characters they represent, this research aims to explore how costume design influences the audience's perception and understanding of the characters and the narrative. Through a case study approach, this research delves into the intricate details of the costume design in THA 303 production, analyzing the choices made by the costume designer in relation to the characters' personalities, backgrounds, and roles in the play. The study investigates how costume elements such as color, texture, style, and accessories are utilized to convey specific messages and evoke certain emotions in the audience. <p>1.1 Background to the Study<br><br>Costume aids art forms such as plays agent films, dance pieces, opera and so on. As an interpretative costume is one of the basic elements in performance sometimes to denote mood, status, modesty or simply to decorate a character<br><br>This study examines the interpretative functions of costume in mood, characterization and theme on the performance of Morountodun done by THA 303 class in the 2013-2014 academic session in the Department of Theatre Arts Delta State University Abraka.<br><br>1.2 Objective of the Study<br><br>This project would critically examine the interpretative function of costume in theatre productions using the performance of Morountodun in Delta State University Abraka as a case study.<br><br>1.3 Significance of the Study<br><br>This study is carried out in the hope that it would contribute positively to knowledge in the area of that research that deals on the interpretative function of costume in a play such as Morountodun by Femi Osofisan.<br><br>1.4 Methodology<br><br>The study adopts the literary and artistic methodologies. The literary methodology entails the critical analysis of Morountodun, by Femi Osofisan and other literatures. The Artistic methodology which is participant observation would be adopted also as the researcher was a member of the class of THA 303 in the 2013-214 academic session in the Department of Theatre Arts Delta State University Abraka that performed the play.<br><br>1.5 Scope of the Study<br><br>This project work focuses on the functions of costume and how costume if applied successfully could interpret the role of the character better. The scope of this research would also cover how costume used in the play Morountodun effectively portrays the role of some selected characters in the performances of Morountodun that was done by the 300 level students in the 2013-2014 academic session.<br><br><br></p>
