Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Soil health is a critical factor in determining the productivity and sustainability of agricultural lands. The assessment of soil health parameters under different management practices is essential for understanding the impact of agricultural activities on soil quality. This study aimed to investigate the soil health parameters in agricultural lands subjected to various management practices, including conventional farming, organic farming, and conservation agriculture. The research was conducted through field surveys and laboratory analyses to evaluate key soil health indicators such as soil pH, organic matter content, nutrient levels, microbial activity, and physical properties. The study found that soil health parameters varied significantly among the different management practices. Organic farming practices showed higher levels of soil organic matter and microbial activity compared to conventional farming, indicating better soil quality and fertility. Conservation agriculture practices also demonstrated positive effects on soil health, with improved soil structure and water retention capacity. However, nutrient levels in soils under conservation agriculture were found to be lower compared to conventional and organic farming systems. The research methodology involved soil sampling from multiple agricultural sites representing different management practices. Laboratory analyses included soil texture determination, pH measurement, organic matter content determination, nutrient analysis, and microbial activity assessments. Statistical analyses were conducted to compare soil health parameters across the different management practices and identify significant differences. The discussion of findings highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable agricultural practices to maintain soil health and productivity. Organic farming and conservation agriculture were found to have positive effects on soil quality, promoting biodiversity, enhancing nutrient cycling, and improving soil structure. However, challenges such as nutrient management and weed control were identified in these systems, requiring further research and innovation. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the assessment of soil health parameters in agricultural lands under different management practices. The results highlight the importance of sustainable soil management practices to ensure long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability. The findings of this research contribute to the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and enhance soil health for future generations. Further research is recommended to explore innovative approaches to improve soil health and address key challenges in agricultural sustainability.
