Abstract
This thesis focuses on the synthesis and characterization of biodegradable polymers for sustainable packaging applications. The urgent need for environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional petroleum-based plastics has led to a growing interest in biodegradable polymers. This research project aims to contribute to the development of biodegradable polymers that can effectively replace conventional plastics in packaging materials. The study involves the synthesis of biodegradable polymers using renewable feedstocks and environmentally friendly processes. Various characterization techniques will be employed to evaluate the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the synthesized polymers. The performance of the biodegradable polymers in packaging applications will be assessed in terms of their barrier properties, thermal stability, and biodegradability. The research methodology includes polymer synthesis, characterization techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and mechanical testing. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the design and development of sustainable packaging materials. The significance of this research lies in its potential to address environmental concerns associated with plastic pollution and contribute to the promotion of a more sustainable packaging industry. Overall, this thesis aims to contribute to the advancement of biodegradable polymers as a viable and eco-friendly alternative for sustainable packaging applications.
