Thesis Abstract

Sourcing is a critical aspect of organizational operations, especially in the quest for profit maximization. The ability to meet customer demands satisfactorily and timely is essential for achieving this objective. Effective sourcing involves more than just selecting suppliers for individual requirements; it entails building and maintaining relationships with both existing and potential sources. This process requires ongoing market research to inform procurement decisions. Purchasing professionals must identify suitable sources, ensure quality and quantity requirements are met at competitive prices, and continually evaluate supplier performance to ensure a seamless flow of materials. However, many organizations face challenges due to poor sourcing practices, such as awarding contracts to suppliers who are not financially or technically capable of meeting their needs. This often results from irrational decision-making by purchasers, leading to setbacks in profit objectives. Problems associated with inadequate sourcing include high material costs, delayed deliveries, and substandard products, all stemming from inappropriate supplier selection. This study aims to assess the role of sourcing in achieving profit objectives at the Nigeria Bottling Company Kaduna Plant. Specifically, the research seeks to identify the organization's sourcing policies, criteria for source selection, methods for rating suppliers, and the nature of buyer-supplier relationships. By examining these factors, the study aims to provide insights into how effective sourcing practices can contribute to organizational success.
