Inventory planning and control play a crucial role in the efficient operation of government establishments, including the Ministry of Works and Transport in Owerri. This study aimed to investigate the impact of efficient inventory planning and control in the aforementioned ministry to enhance its overall performance and service delivery. The research employed a case study approach, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The findings revealed that effective inventory planning and control practices positively influence the operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the Ministry of Works and Transport. Through proper inventory management, the ministry can optimize its resources, minimize stockouts, and reduce excess inventory levels. This, in turn, leads to improved service delivery and customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of implementing modern inventory management techniques and technologies to streamline processes and enhance decision-making within the ministry. The utilization of inventory management software systems can provide real-time data on stock levels, demand forecasting, and order processing, enabling better planning and control of inventory activities. The research also identified challenges faced by the Ministry of Works and Transport in implementing efficient inventory planning and control strategies, such as inadequate training of staff, lack of standardized procedures, and limited financial resources.
