Abstract
Information technology (IT) has become a crucial component in the operations of modern organizations, significantly impacting various functions such as supply chain management. This study investigates the effect of information technology on the supply function of Nigeria Breweries Enugu, utilizing a case study approach. The research aims to explore how the adoption and integration of IT in the supply chain processes of the organization have influenced its overall efficiency and effectiveness. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, data was collected from Nigeria Breweries Enugu to analyze the impact of information technology on its supply function. The findings reveal that the implementation of IT tools and systems has led to improvements in supply chain operations, including inventory management, procurement processes, and logistics coordination. The integration of technologies such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Supply Chain Management (SCM) software, and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has enhanced communication, decision-making, and coordination within the supply function. Furthermore, the study identifies that the adoption of IT has enabled Nigeria Breweries Enugu to streamline its supply chain processes, reduce lead times, and optimize inventory levels. The organization has been able to achieve cost savings, enhance customer satisfaction, and improve overall supply chain performance through the effective utilization of information technology. Additionally, IT has facilitated better data management and analytics, enabling the organization to make data-driven decisions and forecast demand more accurately. The research also highlights some challenges faced by Nigeria Breweries Enugu in implementing IT in its supply function, such as initial costs, staff training, and data security concerns. Despite these challenges, the overall impact of information technology on the supply function of the organization has been largely positive, leading to increased efficiency, responsiveness, and competitiveness in the market. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that information technology plays a significant role in transforming and enhancing the supply function of organizations. Nigeria Breweries Enugu serves as a practical case study demonstrating the benefits of IT adoption in improving supply chain management practices. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the strategic importance of IT in organizational supply functions, emphasizing the need for continuous innovation and investment in technology to drive operational excellence and competitive advantage.
