Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Physical distribution plays a crucial role in the overall performance of an organization. The efficient movement of goods from the point of production to the point of consumption is essential for meeting customer demands, reducing costs, and maximizing profitability. This research project aims to assess the impact of physical distribution on the performance of organizations across various industries. The study will involve analyzing the key components of physical distribution, which include transportation, inventory management, warehousing, and order processing. By examining these components, the research will identify how each aspect contributes to the overall effectiveness of a company's distribution network. Furthermore, the project will investigate the relationship between physical distribution and customer satisfaction, as well as its influence on the organization's competitive advantage. To conduct the assessment, quantitative and qualitative research methods will be employed. Surveys and interviews will be conducted with managers and employees involved in physical distribution activities to gather data on current practices, challenges faced, and areas for improvement. Additionally, data on key performance indicators such as order fulfillment rates, delivery times, and inventory turnover will be collected and analyzed to measure the efficiency of the distribution process. The research will also explore the role of technology in optimizing physical distribution operations. The implementation of transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, and other technological solutions will be examined to determine their impact on streamlining processes, reducing costs, and enhancing service levels. By studying best practices in technology adoption within the distribution function, the project aims to provide insights into how organizations can leverage technology to improve their distribution performance. Overall, this research project seeks to provide valuable insights into the importance of physical distribution in organizational performance. By understanding the factors that influence distribution effectiveness and efficiency, companies can make informed decisions to enhance their supply chain operations and gain a competitive edge in the market. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on supply chain management and serve as a guide for organizations looking to optimize their physical distribution processes.

Thesis Overview

This project work is centered on stock control as a measure for ensuring profitability in an organisation a case study of Kaduna refinery and Petroleum chemical. It begins with the first chapter that deals with the background of the study which gives brief introduction about the subject matter under study. Statement of problem which is the reason why the researcher under take the study to exploit such problem and come up with recommendation which will be beneficial to the organisation and entire society. Research question is drawn up which is in line with the objective of the research work to be open up to get veriables for questionnaires to be administered. Chapter two deals with the review of previous work carried out by other authors on a similar topic. Chapter three deals with the research methodology with research design correlation studies to establish the relationship between stock control and profitability. The study have a sample size of 50 which is 20% of the population of 250 drawn from materials management related department and the sample size selected randomly and questionnaire were administered to them for their response. The findings of the study show that stock control have relationship with the profitability of the organisation. Thus it was concluded that stock control in KRPC is not properly carried out, because replenishment drive is not according to actual materials requirement. Therefore recommended that stock control unit should be established and the use of actual materials requirement should be the principle upon which material replenishment is carried out to ensure that materials are not hold in excess and also not.
