Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on cardiovascular health in sedentary individuals. Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with sedentary lifestyles contributing significantly to its prevalence. HIIT has gained popularity as a time-efficient and effective exercise modality for improving cardiovascular fitness. This research sought to evaluate the impact of HIIT on key cardiovascular health parameters, including heart rate, blood pressure, lipid profile, and aerobic capacity, among sedentary individuals. A comprehensive review of the existing literature on HIIT and cardiovascular health was conducted to provide a theoretical framework for the study. The literature review highlighted the potential benefits of HIIT in improving cardiovascular fitness and reducing the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease. Key themes explored in the review included the physiological mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of HIIT, the optimal HIIT protocols for cardiovascular health, and the comparative effectiveness of HIIT versus other forms of exercise. The research methodology employed a randomized controlled trial design, with sedentary individuals assigned to either a HIIT intervention group or a control group. The HIIT intervention consisted of structured exercise sessions comprising high-intensity intervals interspersed with periods of low-intensity recovery. Baseline assessments of cardiovascular health parameters were conducted prior to the intervention, with follow-up assessments performed post-intervention to evaluate changes over time. The findings of the study revealed significant improvements in cardiovascular health among participants in the HIIT intervention group. Specifically, reductions in resting heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, and improvements in aerobic capacity were observed following the HIIT intervention. These results suggest that HIIT may be an effective strategy for enhancing cardiovascular health in sedentary individuals and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the effects of High-Intensity Interval Training on cardiovascular health in sedentary individuals. The findings support the efficacy of HIIT as a time-efficient and beneficial exercise approach for improving cardiovascular fitness and reducing cardiovascular risk factors. The implications of this research extend to public health initiatives aimed at promoting physical activity and preventing cardiovascular disease in sedentary populations. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects of HIIT on cardiovascular health and to optimize HIIT protocols for diverse populations.
