Patient safety remains a critical concern in rural hospital emergency departments, where resource constraints, staff shortages, and limited access to ongoing professional development exacerbate the risk of medical errors and adverse events. Despite acknowledgment of the importance of staff training in enhancing safety protocols, empirical evidence on its specific impact within rural emergency settings remains limited. This study aims to evaluate the influence of targeted staff training programs on patient safety outcomes in rural hospital emergency departments, with the overarching goal of informing policy and optimizing training interventions. The specific objectives include assessing the current level of staff training on patient safety, measuring the change in safety practices following training interventions, and identifying factors that facilitate or hinder the effective implementation of such programs. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study integrates quantitative and qualitative data to provide a comprehensive analysis. The quantitative component comprises a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design involving a sample of 150 emergency department staff members—comprising nurses, medical officers, and support staff—from five rural hospitals. Participants are selected through stratified random sampling to ensure representativeness across professional roles.
