Thesis Abstract
Abstract
The rapid advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has significantly transformed the landscape of radio news dissemination. This study aims to investigate the impact of ICT on radio news production, delivery, and consumption. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive analysis. The study examines how ICT tools and platforms have influenced the production process of radio news. It explores how radio stations utilize digital editing software, social media, and online resources to gather, verify, and disseminate news content more efficiently. The research also investigates the role of citizen journalism and user-generated content in shaping radio news coverage through ICT-enabled platforms. Furthermore, the study delves into the impact of ICT on the delivery of radio news to audiences. It analyzes how online streaming, podcasts, and mobile applications have expanded the reach of radio news beyond traditional broadcast boundaries. The research also investigates the audience engagement and interactivity facilitated by ICT, such as through social media interactions and real-time feedback mechanisms. Additionally, the study explores the changing patterns of radio news consumption influenced by ICT. It examines how audiences access news content through online platforms, on-demand services, and social media channels. The research also investigates the implications of personalized news algorithms and filter bubbles on audience exposure to diverse perspectives in radio news. Moreover, the study considers the challenges and opportunities presented by ICT in the radio news industry. It examines issues related to digital security, misinformation, and the need for media literacy in an increasingly interconnected digital environment. The research also explores the potential for ICT to enhance the transparency, credibility, and inclusivity of radio news production and distribution. Overall, this study contributes to the existing literature on the impact of ICT on journalism by focusing specifically on radio news. By examining the production, delivery, and consumption aspects of radio news in the digital age, the research offers insights into the evolving role of technology in shaping the future of radio broadcasting.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Broadcasting has been at the forefront of many technological changes, mostly in digitalization and enhancement of existing technology. For example, digital technology now permits listeners to obtain traffic information and news per se, while listening to a cassette, compact disc or radio station etc. (Church Akpan 2006).

We are all living in a changing world, and over the past many ears we have been conditioned to accept changes in the way we think and relate. Thus, communication between the peoples of the world which sounded utopist before is now becoming a reality in or very eyes giving practical meaning to Marshall Mollohan’sviewofthe world ad a global village interlinked by communication technologies, (Mc Lucan, 1964.
