Abstract
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) plays a crucial role in the administration and enforcement of copyright laws in Nigeria. Copyright protection is essential for promoting creativity, innovation, and economic development in the country. This research project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the NCC in the administration of copyright in Nigeria. The study will examine the legal framework governing copyright in Nigeria, focusing on the Copyright Act and other relevant regulations. It will analyze the functions and powers of the NCC in the protection of intellectual property rights, including copyright registration, licensing, and enforcement. The research will also assess the challenges faced by the NCC in carrying out its mandate, such as limited resources, piracy, and inadequate public awareness. Furthermore, the project will explore the role of the NCC in promoting copyright education and awareness among stakeholders, including creators, rights holders, and the general public. It will investigate the NCC's efforts in fostering collaboration with other government agencies, industry associations, and international organizations to strengthen copyright protection and enforcement in Nigeria. In addition, the study will examine the impact of technological advancements, such as digital piracy and online copyright infringement, on the administration of copyright in Nigeria. It will analyze the NCC's strategies in addressing these challenges, including the use of technology tools, legal actions, and public campaigns to combat piracy and protect intellectual property rights. Moreover, the research project will assess the effectiveness of the NCC in resolving copyright disputes and enforcing copyright laws through litigation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. It will evaluate the NCC's role in promoting a fair and efficient copyright system that balances the interests of creators, users, and the public. Overall, this research aims to provide insights into the role of the Nigerian Copyright Commission in the administration of copyright in Nigeria and make recommendations for enhancing copyright protection, enforcement, and education in the country.
