Thesis Abstract
Abstract
Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained popularity as a dietary strategy for weight management and improving metabolic health in adults. This thesis aimed to investigate the effects of intermittent fasting on weight management and metabolic health in adults through a comprehensive review of existing literature and empirical research. The project was structured into five main chapters. Chapter 1 provided an introduction to the topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter 2 consisted of a detailed literature review encompassing ten key areas related to intermittent fasting, weight management, and metabolic health in adults. Chapter 3 outlined the research methodology, including the study design, participant selection criteria, data collection methods, measurements, statistical analysis techniques, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discussed the limitations of the methodology and strategies employed to address potential biases. In Chapter 4, the findings of the study were presented and discussed in detail, focusing on the impact of intermittent fasting on weight loss, body composition, metabolic markers, and overall health outcomes in adult populations. The results were analyzed in the context of existing literature and implications for clinical practice were highlighted. Chapter 5 provided a comprehensive conclusion and summary of the thesis, summarizing the key findings, discussing their significance, and suggesting directions for future research in the field of intermittent fasting, weight management, and metabolic health in adults. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the potential benefits of intermittent fasting as a dietary intervention for weight management and improving metabolic health in adults. The findings underscore the importance of personalized approaches to nutrition and lifestyle interventions, taking into account individual differences and preferences. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the effects of intermittent fasting and optimize its implementation for diverse populations.
