Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The prevalence of anxiety among college students is a growing concern that can significantly impact their academic performance and overall well-being. Various intervention strategies have been explored to address this issue, with virtual reality therapy emerging as a promising approach. This thesis investigates the impact of virtual reality therapy on reducing anxiety in college students. The study aims to examine the effectiveness of virtual reality therapy in alleviating anxiety symptoms and enhancing the mental health outcomes of college students. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from a sample of college students undergoing virtual reality therapy for anxiety. A total of 200 participants were recruited from a diverse range of academic disciplines and backgrounds. The quantitative analysis focused on measuring changes in anxiety levels before and after the virtual reality therapy sessions, using standardized anxiety assessment tools. The qualitative interviews aimed to capture the subjective experiences and perceptions of the participants regarding the effectiveness of virtual reality therapy in managing their anxiety. The findings of the study revealed a significant reduction in anxiety levels among college students who participated in virtual reality therapy sessions. The quantitative analysis demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in anxiety scores post-intervention, indicating the effectiveness of virtual reality therapy in reducing anxiety symptoms. The qualitative data provided valuable insights into the personal experiences of the participants, highlighting the immersive and engaging nature of virtual reality therapy in helping them cope with anxiety. The discussion of the findings delves into the mechanisms through which virtual reality therapy may contribute to reducing anxiety in college students, including its ability to create a sense of presence, distraction, and relaxation. The implications of these findings for the field of guidance and counseling are discussed, emphasizing the potential of virtual reality therapy as a complementary intervention for addressing anxiety among college students. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the existing literature on the use of virtual reality therapy in the context of college student mental health. The results suggest that virtual reality therapy holds promise as an effective intervention for reducing anxiety and improving the well-being of college students. Recommendations for future research and implications for practice are provided to further enhance the application of virtual reality therapy in guidance and counseling settings.
