Thesis Abstract
Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of online counseling on mental health through a comparative study. The rise of online counseling platforms has transformed the landscape of mental health services, offering individuals greater accessibility, convenience, and anonymity in seeking support. However, the effectiveness and implications of online counseling in comparison to traditional face-to-face counseling remain a subject of debate and investigation. This study aims to contribute to the existing literature by examining the outcomes and experiences of individuals who have engaged in both online and face-to-face counseling for mental health concerns. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from participants. A total of 200 individuals, comprising online counseling users and face-to-face counseling recipients, were recruited to participate in the study. The data collected were analyzed using statistical techniques and thematic analysis to identify patterns, themes, and correlations. The findings of the study revealed both advantages and limitations associated with online counseling in comparison to traditional face-to-face counseling. Online counseling was found to offer increased accessibility, flexibility, and affordability, making it a viable option for individuals with barriers to in-person therapy. However, concerns were raised regarding the quality of therapeutic relationships, confidentiality, and effectiveness of online interventions. Participants reported varied experiences and preferences, highlighting the need for personalized approaches in mental health treatment. The implications of the study suggest that online counseling can complement traditional face-to-face counseling services, providing additional support and options for individuals seeking mental health assistance. Recommendations for mental health practitioners, policymakers, and online counseling platforms are provided to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of online mental health services. In conclusion, this comparative study contributes valuable insights into the impact of online counseling on mental health, shedding light on the benefits, challenges, and considerations associated with virtual therapeutic interventions. By understanding the nuances of online counseling and its implications for mental health outcomes, stakeholders can make informed decisions and advancements in the field of guidance and counseling.
