Thesis Abstract
Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on stress management in college students through a randomized controlled trial. Stress is a prevalent issue among college students, often leading to negative consequences on their mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. Mindfulness-based interventions have gained recognition as effective tools in addressing stress and promoting mental wellness. This study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge by exploring the specific effects of mindfulness practices on stress management among college students. The research design involves a randomized controlled trial with participants randomly assigned to either a mindfulness intervention group or a control group. The intervention group will engage in various mindfulness practices, such as mindfulness meditation, body scan exercises, and mindful breathing techniques, over a specified period. The control group will not receive any mindfulness intervention during this time. Data collection methods will include self-reported measures of stress levels, anxiety, depression, and overall well-being at baseline, during the intervention period, and at follow-up assessments. The literature review highlights the theoretical foundations of mindfulness, stress management techniques, and previous studies investigating the relationship between mindfulness interventions and stress reduction. The review also discusses the potential mechanisms through which mindfulness practices may influence stress responses, including increased self-awareness, emotion regulation, and enhanced coping strategies. The research methodology section outlines the study design, participant recruitment process, intervention protocols, data collection procedures, and statistical analysis plan. Ethical considerations related to participant confidentiality, informed consent, and data protection are also addressed. The findings from the study will be discussed in detail in the results chapter, focusing on the effectiveness of mindfulness interventions in reducing stress levels among college students. The implications of the results will be considered in the context of existing literature and practical recommendations for implementing mindfulness-based programs in college settings will be provided. In conclusion, this thesis seeks to contribute valuable insights into the potential benefits of mindfulness-based interventions for stress management in college students. By examining the effects of mindfulness practices on stress reduction through a randomized controlled trial, this study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for promoting mental wellness and resilience among college populations.
