Thesis Abstract
Abstract
Counselling is a profession that involves helping individuals navigate through various challenges and issues in their lives. However, counsellors themselves often face high levels of stress due to the emotionally demanding nature of their work. The counselling relationship, which is the core of the therapeutic process, can be a source of both fulfillment and stress for counsellors. Therefore, it is crucial for counsellors to receive proper training on coping with stress in the counselling relationship. This research project aims to explore the effectiveness of counselling training programs in equipping counsellors with the necessary skills to cope with stress in the counselling relationship. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The participants will include counsellors who have undergone specific training in stress management within the counselling context. The quantitative aspect of the research will involve administering surveys to assess the levels of stress experienced by counsellors before and after undergoing the training program. Various stress indicators will be measured, such as emotional exhaustion, burnout, and compassion fatigue. The results will be analyzed to determine the impact of the training on reducing stress levels and improving overall well-being among counsellors. In addition to the quantitative data, qualitative interviews will be conducted with counsellors to gain insights into their experiences with stress in the counselling relationship and the effectiveness of the training program in helping them cope. The interviews will explore specific coping strategies learned during the training, as well as any challenges faced in implementing these strategies in real counselling sessions. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing literature on counsellor well-being and stress management in the counselling profession. By identifying effective training approaches for coping with stress in the counselling relationship, this study aims to enhance the overall mental health and job satisfaction of counsellors. Ultimately, the goal is to improve the quality of care provided to clients by ensuring that counsellors are equipped to manage their own stress levels effectively.
