Abstract
The quality of groundwater in urban areas is crucial for the health and well-being of the population. This study focused on assessing groundwater quality in an urban area using geospatial techniques. The research aimed to investigate the presence of contaminants, identify sources of pollution, and evaluate the overall quality of groundwater in the study area. Geospatial tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing were utilized to map the distribution of groundwater quality parameters and analyze spatial patterns. The research methodology involved collecting water samples from various locations within the urban area and analyzing them for key parameters including pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), nitrates, and heavy metals. Statistical analysis and geospatial modeling were employed to analyze the data and generate maps illustrating the spatial distribution of groundwater quality parameters. The study also involved field surveys to identify potential sources of contamination such as industrial activities, agricultural practices, and urban runoff. The findings revealed varying levels of contamination in different parts of the urban area, with higher concentrations of pollutants observed in areas closer to industrial zones and agricultural land. The maps generated through geospatial analysis provided valuable insights into the spatial patterns of groundwater quality parameters, highlighting areas of concern that require immediate attention. The results of the study can serve as a basis for developing strategies to protect and preserve groundwater resources in urban areas. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of groundwater quality in urban areas and demonstrates the effectiveness of geospatial techniques in assessing and monitoring water resources. The study emphasizes the importance of proactive management practices to safeguard groundwater quality and ensure the availability of safe drinking water for urban populations.
