This thesis explores the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health from a General Studies perspective. The research aims to investigate how social media influences mental health outcomes, including psychological well-being, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the topic, presenting the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter 2 offers a comprehensive literature review that critically examines existing research on the impact of social media on mental health. The review covers topics such as social comparison theory, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and the role of social media in shaping self-perception and identity.
