The food industry is continuously seeking innovative solutions to enhance the sustainability and functionality of food packaging materials in order to increase the shelf life of food products. This research project focuses on the development of a novel food packaging material that addresses these challenges by integrating sustainable practices and advanced functionalities. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of this novel packaging material to extend the shelf life of food products while minimizing environmental impact. Chapter one provides an introduction to the research topic, highlighting the importance of sustainable packaging solutions in the food industry. The background of the study outlines the current challenges faced in food packaging and the need for more sustainable alternatives. The problem statement identifies the gap in existing packaging materials and the objective of the study is to develop a novel material that enhances sustainability and functionality. Limitations and scope of the study are also discussed, along with the significance of the research and the structure of the thesis. Chapter two presents a comprehensive literature review that examines current trends and developments in food packaging materials.
