Abstract
The management of waste in urban areas is a critical issue that requires sustainable and effective practices to mitigate environmental impact and promote the well-being of communities. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, focusing on key strategies and their impact on waste reduction, recycling, and overall environmental sustainability. The research methodology employed a mixed-method approach, including surveys, interviews, and data analysis to gather insights from waste management stakeholders and residents in selected urban areas. The literature review identified ten key themes related to sustainable waste management, including the importance of waste segregation, community engagement, policy frameworks, technology adoption, and circular economy principles. These themes provided a comprehensive understanding of the current state of waste management practices and highlighted best practices and challenges in urban settings. The research methodology chapter outlines the approach taken to collect and analyze data, including the sampling strategy, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques. The study utilized both qualitative and quantitative data to provide a holistic view of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas. The findings chapter presents a detailed discussion of the research results, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of current waste management practices, as well as the perceptions and behaviors of stakeholders and residents. The analysis reveals the effectiveness of various strategies in waste reduction, recycling rates, and overall sustainability outcomes. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the existing body of knowledge on sustainable waste management practices in urban areas and provides insights for policymakers, waste management authorities, and community stakeholders to improve waste management systems and promote environmental sustainability. The study recommends the implementation of integrated waste management approaches, community awareness campaigns, and policy interventions to enhance the effectiveness of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas.
