This thesis examines the assessment of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, with a focus on identifying current challenges and proposing innovative solutions to enhance environmental sustainability. The study is motivated by the increasing global concern over the impact of improper waste management on public health, environmental degradation, and natural resource depletion. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical research, this thesis explores the existing waste management practices in urban areas, evaluates their effectiveness, and identifies key areas for improvement. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. The chapter sets the foundation for the study and outlines the key research questions that will be addressed in subsequent chapters. Chapter Two presents a detailed literature review on sustainable waste management practices in urban areas.
