Abstract
The management of waste in urban areas is a critical issue that affects the environment, public health, and overall quality of life. This thesis presents an assessment of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, with a focus on identifying challenges, opportunities, and best practices to improve waste management systems. The study aims to provide insights into current waste management practices, evaluate their sustainability, and propose recommendations for enhancing waste management efficiency and effectiveness. The research methodology includes a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches, such as surveys, interviews, and case studies, to gather data on waste generation, collection, recycling, and disposal practices in urban areas. A comprehensive literature review is conducted to explore existing theories, models, and frameworks related to sustainable waste management, providing a theoretical foundation for the study. Findings from the research reveal a range of challenges facing urban waste management, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of public awareness, and limited resources for recycling and waste treatment.
