Abstract
Urban stormwater management is a critical aspect of sustainable urban planning and environmental management. Green infrastructure practices have emerged as innovative and sustainable solutions to address the challenges associated with stormwater runoff in urban areas. This thesis focuses on the assessment of green infrastructure practices for urban stormwater management, aiming to evaluate their effectiveness, feasibility, and potential impacts on urban sustainability. The study reviews existing literature on green infrastructure, stormwater management, and urban sustainability to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. The research methodology employed in this study includes a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data collection methods involve field surveys, interviews with experts in the field, and analysis of case studies of green infrastructure projects in urban areas. The study also utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to map and analyze the spatial distribution of green infrastructure practices in urban settings. The findings of the study reveal the benefits of green infrastructure practices in managing stormwater runoff, including improved water quality, reduced flood risk, and enhanced urban biodiversity. The study also identifies the challenges and limitations associated with the implementation of green infrastructure, such as high initial costs, maintenance requirements, and land availability constraints. Recommendations are provided for policymakers, urban planners, and stakeholders to promote the adoption of green infrastructure practices in urban stormwater management. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the body of knowledge on green infrastructure practices for urban stormwater management by providing a comprehensive assessment of their effectiveness and feasibility. The study highlights the importance of integrating green infrastructure into urban planning and development strategies to create more sustainable and resilient cities. Future research directions are suggested to further investigate the long-term impacts and scalability of green infrastructure practices in urban environments.
