Thesis Abstract
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. This research project aims to investigate the effects of the pandemic on SMEs in Nigeria, focusing on various aspects such as financial stability, operational challenges, and adaptation strategies. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews with SME owners and key stakeholders to gather comprehensive data on the situation. The findings reveal that the pandemic has led to a sharp decline in revenue for many SMEs, with some facing closure due to financial strain. Operational challenges such as supply chain disruptions, reduced consumer demand, and difficulties in accessing finance have also been prominent during this period. However, the research also highlights the resilience and adaptability of SMEs in response to the crisis. In terms of adaptation strategies, the study identifies various measures taken by SMEs to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19. These include digital transformation, diversification of products and services, cost-cutting measures, and exploring new markets. Additionally, government interventions such as stimulus packages and support programs have played a crucial role in assisting SMEs during this challenging time. Overall, the research underscores the need for targeted support and policy interventions to help SMEs recover and thrive post-pandemic. By understanding the impact of COVID-19 on SMEs in Nigeria and identifying effective strategies for resilience, stakeholders can work towards building a more robust and sustainable SME sector in the future.
