This thesis explores the use of symbolism in contemporary African literature, with a focus on how authors employ symbols to address issues such as identity, post-colonialism, tradition, and modernity. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, outlining the background of the research, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review, analyzing existing scholarship on symbolism in African literature and highlighting key themes and trends in the use of symbols by African authors. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study.
