This thesis examines the nuanced and complex representations of identity and belonging in postcolonial literature. The study delves into the ways in which postcolonial authors navigate themes of identity construction, negotiation, and contestation in the aftermath of colonial rule. Through a comprehensive analysis of selected works from various postcolonial literary traditions, this research seeks to shed light on the multifaceted dimensions of identity and belonging as portrayed in literature. The introduction sets the stage by providing a background to the study, outlining the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, as well as defining key terms to be used throughout the thesis. Chapter two comprises a detailed literature review encompassing ten key themes related to identity and belonging in postcolonial literature.
