Thesis Abstract
Abstract
This project focuses on the design and implementation of a remote control door opener system. The aim of this system is to provide users with a convenient way to open and close doors remotely, without the need for physical contact. The project utilizes a combination of hardware components and software programming to achieve this functionality. The hardware components include a microcontroller unit (MCU), a motor or actuator for door movement, a remote control transmitter, and a receiver module. The MCU serves as the brain of the system, controlling the operation of the motor based on signals received from the remote control. The remote control transmitter allows users to send commands wirelessly to the system, while the receiver module captures these commands and forwards them to the MCU for processing. The software aspect of the system involves programming the MCU to interpret the signals received from the remote control and actuate the motor accordingly. This programming includes setting up the communication protocols between the remote control and the MCU, as well as defining the actions to be taken in response to different commands. Additionally, security features such as encryption and authentication can be implemented to prevent unauthorized access to the system. The implementation of the remote control door opener system offers several benefits. Firstly, it enhances convenience for users by allowing them to open or close doors from a distance, which can be particularly useful in situations where physical contact is not desirable or feasible. Secondly, the system can improve accessibility for individuals with mobility issues or disabilities, enabling them to operate doors more easily. Finally, the system can enhance security by allowing users to control access to their premises remotely. Future developments of this project could include integrating the system with smart home technology for enhanced automation and connectivity. This could involve linking the remote control door opener to a mobile app or a central smart home hub for more advanced control and monitoring capabilities. Additionally, improvements in power efficiency and reliability could be made to enhance the overall performance and longevity of the system. In conclusion, the design and implementation of a remote control door opener system offer a practical solution for convenient, accessible, and secure door operation. By combining hardware components with software programming, this system provides users with a user-friendly and efficient way to control doors remotely.
Thesis Overview

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

Security describes protection of life and property. There are doors to keep people out, key locks and chains reinforce the mode of security. Doors are being made of metals not just wood anymore. Influential persons in our society have bullet proof doors to ensure a good measure of security of self and family. The system has become necessary at this time when crime has remain on the ever increase, despite the efforts of the various security agents, it has equally becomes necessary to have control of access to some entrance, since it goes a long way to limit the accessibility of unauthorized persons in restricted areas. This has brought about the need to review the reliability of already existing systems and look into the possibility of creating better systems that are smarter and more secure. Hence, the design of a remote control door opener.

A remote control door opener system is an access control system that allows only authorized persons to access a restricted area, this system is best suitable for co-operate offices and home security. The design uses a 4017 decade counter based digital lock, it comprises of a small electronic unit which is fixed at the door entry to control the door mechanism, especially when the relay is energized it will drive the motor in clockwise direction for the door to open and anti-clockwise direction for the door to be closed. It is developed for a system to enable users to use only a customized remote to open doors at restricted zones.

1.2 Aim/Objectives

The aim of this project is to design and implement a remote control door opener. Therefore, the specific objectives of the project are as follows:

1. To design a suitable 5v power supply

2. To design a remote control door using TC4017 Decade counters

3. To Interface the remote transmitter using 555 timers

4. To Implement automatic Door control mechanism driving dc motor in both directions

1.3 Significance of the Study

The benefit of this project work cannot be overemphasized. This is because it would help to develop the ability of our potential and also increase our knowledge in electronic design. This design methodology offers security of lives and properties

This work will also benefit the economy as it help to reduce crime rate thereby affecting the economy positively. In commercial setting, this can be used as a revenue source. Finally, it will serve as basic technology advancement to students in engineering field of study since it will aid students who intends to carryout similar design.

1.4 Scope of the Project

The scope of this project is centered on design and implementation of a remote control door opener. This kind of project can also be used for different designs such as box, safe, gates, doors or garages.

Also, the remote control (RF) would access the door within the frequency range of 38kHz.

Furthermore, the scope will include in the design a door switch using a customized remote to open doors in order to avoid unauthorized persons from entering restricted areas.

1.5 Limitation of the Project

During the process of this project design, lots of difficulties were encountered that is:

1. Finance

2. Unavailability of some raw materials for the research work.

3. Time was another serious issue which was significant in the research required for this work.

1.6 Project Report Organization

The organization of this project report is well detailed and vast in its coverage because it covers all the activities encountered during the project design. Chapter One of this work took care of the Introduction, Background, Aims and objective, significance, scope, limitations and Project report organization. Chapter Two highlight on literature review where it reviews and discusses past work of other authors on the subject matter. Chapter Three highlight design methodology. Chapter Four highlight on the implementation and testing. Chapter Five is all about the conclusions problem encountered recommendation and cost of the project.
