The proliferation of digital payment platforms has significantly transformed the operational landscape of small businesses in urban environments, yet empirical evidence on their impact on business growth remains limited and fragmented. This study aims to systematically investigate the influence of digital payment adoption on the growth trajectories of small businesses within densely populated urban areas, with a focus on understanding the underlying mechanisms and contextual factors that mediate this relationship. The specific objectives include measuring the extent of digital payment integration among small enterprises, assessing the effect of digital payments on sales volume, customer base expansion, and revenue generation, and identifying barriers and facilitators influencing digital payment adoption. To achieve these objectives, a mixed-method research design was employed, integrating quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The quantitative component involved a stratified random sample of 400 small business owners operating in downtown metropolitan districts represented in the study locale, ensuring proportional representation across business sectors such as retail, services, and hospitality. Data collection was facilitated through structured questionnaires adapted from validated scales on technology adoption and business performance metrics, supplemented by semi-structured interviews with 30 key informants to contextualize quantitative findings and explore nuanced perceptions. Validity was enhanced through pre-testing and expert reviews, while reliability was ascertained using Cronbach's alpha coefficients exceeding 0.85 for key constructs. Furthermore, the research is likely to identify operational barriers such as technological literacy, infrastructural deficiencies, and regulatory concerns that hinder widespread implementation, alongside facilitators like government incentives, peer influence, and perceived competitive advantage. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing comprehensive, evidence-based insights into how digital payments influence small business development in urban settings, filling notable gaps in empirical data specific to emerging economies. It extends the theoretical understanding of technology adoption models in the context of financial innovations and small business growth, offering practical implications for policymakers, financial service providers, and small business owners. The study concludes that strategic interventions targeting technological literacy, infrastructure enhancement, and regulatory frameworks are essential to maximize the benefits of digital payments. Recommendations include the development of targeted training programs for small business operators, the establishment of supportive policy environments, and the promotion of digital literacy initiatives. Future research avenues suggested encompass longitudinal investigations to assess long-term impacts and comparative studies across different urban regions or economic contexts to generalize findings further.
