Code-switching, the alternation between two or more languages within a single discourse, is a common linguistic phenomenon in multilingual societies. This thesis investigates the syntax and semantics of code-switching in order to gain a deeper understanding of how speakers navigate between languages in their communication. The research focuses on identifying the patterns and rules that govern code-switching behavior, as well as exploring the motivations and implications behind this linguistic practice. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the topic, offering a background of the study, outlining the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, and defining key terms. The chapter concludes with an overview of the structure of the thesis. Chapter 2 consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research on code-switching in multilingual contexts. This section explores various theories and approaches to code-switching, highlighting key findings and gaps in the current literature. Chapter 3 details the research methodology employed in this study.
