**Abstract
** Social media has become an integral part of our daily lives, influencing various aspects of communication, including language evolution and change. This thesis explores the impact of social media on language, investigating how platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok have altered linguistic norms and practices. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses to provide a comprehensive understanding of these phenomena. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, discussing the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. Additionally, key terms are defined to establish a common understanding of the concepts explored in the study. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review, examining existing research on the influence of social media on language evolution and change. The chapter discusses ten key themes, including linguistic creativity, language standardization, lexical innovations, emoticons and emojis, linguistic identity construction, language variation, social media discourse analysis, language ideologies, language policy, and linguistic landscapes.
