Body-worn cameras (BWCs) have become increasingly prevalent in law enforcement agencies as a tool to enhance transparency, accountability, and overall effectiveness in police-citizen interactions. This thesis aims to conduct a comprehensive criminological analysis of the impact of BWCs on police-citizen interactions. The study explores the background of BWC implementation, the problem statement surrounding police-citizen interactions, and the objectives set to examine the effects of BWCs. The research methodology includes a thorough literature review to identify key themes and debates surrounding BWCs, followed by a quantitative and qualitative analysis of data collected from police officers and community members. The findings reveal insights into the perceived benefits and challenges of BWC usage, as well as the implications for police behavior, citizen compliance, and trust in law enforcement. The discussion delves into the complex dynamics of surveillance, privacy concerns, accountability, and the potential for BWCs to shape policing practices and community relations. The conclusion highlights the significance of BWCs in promoting transparency and trust between police and citizens, while also recognizing the limitations and ethical considerations that must be addressed. Thesis Overview

The research project titled "The Impact of Body-worn Cameras on Police-Citizen Interactions: A Criminological Analysis" seeks to investigate the effects of body-worn cameras on interactions between police officers and civilians from a criminological perspective. Body-worn cameras have become increasingly prevalent in law enforcement agencies worldwide, with the aim of enhancing transparency, accountability, and trust between police officers and the community. Investigating the perceptions of legitimacy and trust in law enforcement among community members in relation to the use of body-worn cameras. 5. By delving into these aspects, this research aims to provide valuable insights that can inform policy decisions, improve police practices, and enhance the quality of interactions between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
