Abstract
The utilization of body-worn cameras (BWCs) in law enforcement agencies has gained significant attention in recent years as a potential tool to enhance police accountability and rebuild public trust. This thesis investigates the impact of body-worn cameras on police accountability and public trust in law enforcement. The study aims to explore the effectiveness of BWCs in promoting transparency, reducing police misconduct, and improving community relations. The research methodology adopted for this study is a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of existing data on BWC implementation in various police departments with qualitative interviews and surveys with police officers, community members, and stakeholders. The findings of the literature review reveal a range of perspectives on the use of BWCs, with studies reporting both positive and negative outcomes. Some research suggests that BWCs can lead to reductions in complaints against police officers, use of force incidents, and citizen complaints, while others raise concerns about privacy violations, officer discretion, and the potential for surveillance. Through the research methodology, this study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of BWCs on police accountability and public trust.
